The Arts Curriculum Study Team Report

The Arts Study Team was established by the Superintendent in the spring of 1995. The three school districts are represented by art, music, and drama staff members. Our first assignment was to review and evaluate the draft of The Arts Curriculum Framework as written by the Massachusetts Department of Education. Our comments, suggestions and concerns were forwarded to the Department of Education for consideration.

This fall, the task of The Arts Study Team is to identify units, projects, and instructional methods in the three school districts that are in keeping with the Curriculum Frameworks and Common Core, and reflect the Guiding Principles of Learning as stated in the Common Chapters. In future meetings,the study team will begin to structure how our new arts curriculum guide will be developed. Our work will advance the Curriculum Framework, Common Core, and Common Chapters in the three school districts, and incorporate the Guidelines for Diversity as requested by the Superintendent. A 1996 summer workshop is planned to further develop the art curriculum.
