Science Curriculum Study Team

The K-12 Science Curriculum Study Team was created by Mr. DiSalvo in December 1994. The study team is comprised of parents and teachers from the School Districts of Northborough, Southborough and Algonquin Regional High School. A revision of the science curriculum requires inquiry and investigation and the study team has embarked on a process of providing information on the Science Curriculum Frameworks and Common Chapters for teachers and parents in the school districts. Members of the Science Curriculum Team have facilitated five meetings with teachers from the respective school districts for the purpose of:

Engaging the teaching staff in a study of the Science Curriculum Frameworks' content areas of life science, physical science, technology and earth and space science.

Identifying exemplary instructional practices that support the Curriculum Frameworks. The Study Team has attempted to culture successful models which result in the application of knowledge.

Determining assessment strategies in science that can be used as tools to enhance student learning.

In addition, the members from the grade level teams have met with parents and School Councils to review and present information about progress on the Science Curriculum Frameworks.

Utilizing the information from the Science Curriculum Frameworks and recommendations from teachers in the school districts, the Science Curriculum Study Team will continue the task of revising the Science Curriculum during the summer break of 1996. The revised curriculum will incorporate the standards from the Common Chapters and Guiding Principles that support the belief for high expectations and pride in teaching and learning.
