School Reform Efforts
The School Reform Act of 1993 set forth Curriculum Frameworks in a number of the disciplines taught in our public schools. Curriculum Frameworks which incorporate goals of objectives and guidelines for new approaches to teaching have been published in the areas of: Mathematics, Science/Technology, English Language Arts, World Languages, Social Studies, Health, and The Arts.
In the Northborough, Southborough, and
Northborough-Southborough Regional School Districts, the
Superintendent of Schools has formed systemwide
curriculum teams in those respective areas of learning.
Below are the summary reports from the chairpersons of
those respective committees. I would like to express my
gratitude and appreciation for the commitment and
dedication of the chairpersons of these committees and
the participating members. They have energetically taken
on the task of studying, analyzing, and critiquing the
curriculum documents, comparing these new frameworks with
our existing curriculum, seeking ways to identify current
teaching practices which reflect these frameworks, and
planning ways to re-draft our existing curriculum
guidelines for future use.
