Health Curriculum Study Team

Jean Fedak and Michaeleen Wright, Co-Chairs

In May, 1995 the Health Study Team was convened by the Superintendent. It is comprised of faculty members from each school, as well as parent representatives. Our first task was to evaluate the Department of Education (DOE) draft of the "Health Frameworks: Building Resiliency". Our critique was forwarded to the DOE, to be used in creating the final draft which was scheduled to be released in the winter of 1996. The core concept of "Building Resiliency" is that comprehensive health education enables students to thrive, persevere, and maintain a positive attitude and healthy bodies. The Health Framework fosters student resiliency through the coordinated teaching of Health, Physical Education, and Family and Consumer Sciences Curricula. It is our task to assess the interdisciplinary connections of the three disciplines, as well as ways in which the school districts' guidelines for diversity are incorporated into the K-12 Northborough/Southborough/Algonquin Comprehensive Health Curriculum. The Study Team will continue to examine all elements of our curriculum in order to make linkages between disciplines and to promote the Frameworks Comprehensive Health Content.
