English Language Arts Curriculum Study Team

The Language Arts Committee has met four times this year. Two meetings took place before the end of the 1994-95 school year. The Committee used these meetings to respond to the draft of the Language Arts Frameworks as presented by the State Department of Education as part of the Education Reform Act.

Since the beginning of the 1995-96 school year, the Committee has met twice more. We are in the process of determining strategies currently in use at all grade levels. In January, the Study Team will divide into sub-groups according to grade levels to examine Language Arts materials submitted by teachers. With the expected release early in 1996 of the revised Language Arts Frameworks, we will determine what aspects of our current district curricula fit the frameworks and what adjustments need to be made to be in compliance with Department of Education expectations.

By June, the Committee will submit an interim report to the Superintendent which will include plans for a proposed summer workshop and work that remains to be done.
