  The Municipal Code and Bylaw Committee met 6 times in 1997, plus various members attended hearings of the Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals pertinent to questions coming before the two Town Meetings, the main one in April and the Special Town Meeting in September. As usual we had very few visitors at our meetings, when we did we were delighted. The more input we have on proposed articles, the better we like it.

    The end of the year saw the departure, through end of term or resignation, of three members who will be sorely missed. Diane Benison declined to serve another term, and George Hamilton and Roger Fuller resigned before their terms had expired because of conflicts with meeting times. Diane had served as clerk this past year, and we will miss her services greatly.

   In the summer, Kathy Slifer and Sandi Landau joined the committee, and James Silver was appointed in December. Alan Carlson and Louise French make up the balance of the committee. We serve to advise the town through the Moderator of our opinions on warrant articles that pertain to the Municipal Code and Bylaws. We are a sounding board for ideas and to give advice to those who want to know how to have an article inserted into the warrant for consideration by the voters of the town. Our meetings are always posted and open to the public. If you have an opinion on a matter to come before the Town Meeting and want to try out your ideas, come attend a meeting and let us hear them.
